Red House Records on “A Prairie Home Companion” 6/21!

ST. PAUL, MN — Celebrating Red House Records’ 25th Anniversary, Jorma Kaukonen, The Wailin’ Jennys and Robin & Linda Williams will be the featured guests on Garrison Keillor’s popular public radio show A Prairie Home Companion on Saturday, June 21st, broadcast live at 6 p.m. Eastern from the Blossom Center of Performing Arts in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Featuring some of the most popular folk/roots artists on the label’s current roster, this performance will be one to remember. Tickets to see the live show are on sale now and are available through Ticketmaster. For more information about this performance and A Prairie Home Companion, please visit prairiehome.publicradio.org.

Guitar legend Jorma Kaukonen is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a founding member of The Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. Released last year on Red House, his latest solo CD Stars in My Crown continues the American roots journey he began on his Grammy-nominated album Blue Country Heart, mixing country blues, gospel and bluegrass. A perfect fit with Jorma’s down-home sounds, Americana songwriting veterans Robin & Linda Williams have been bringing their “no-frills, boiled-down country” (Houston Press) to audiences for three decades. Their latest release Radio Songs featured the best live performances from the duo’s last 20 years on A Prairie Home Companion. The duo has played at festivals and theaters across the country and has appeared on Austin City Limits, The Grand Ole Opry, Mountain Stage and PBS’ Great Performances series. In 2005, they were featured in Robert Altman’s film A Prairie Home Companion. Also favorites on Garrison Keillor’s show, The Wailin’ Jennys have become one of the hottest young acts to emerge on the acoustic music scene. They have brought their signature 3-part harmonies to festivals, theaters and clubs around the world, winning fans everywhere they play. Their latest CD Firecracker was a favorite amongst critics and earned them a Folk Alliance Award for “Contemporary Release of the Year.” The hit record spent more than 50 weeks on the Billboard Charts and is currently one of Red House’s top selling releases.

As part of Red House’s yearlong 25th anniversary celebration, the Grammy-winning label is presenting many special events across the country, including a concert on Saturday, June 28th at The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA featuring Jorma Kaukonen, Robin & Linda Williams and acoustic bluesman Guy Davis. The label also just released a special new CD called Our Side of Town: A Red House Records 25th Year Collection, which will be available for sale at the June 28th event. It is an album of songs that show the colorful landscape of the place that is home to today’s finest acoustic artists—Jorma Kaukonen, Robin & Linda Williams, The Wailin’ Jennys, Guy Davis, Lucy Kaplansky, Storyhill, Ray Bonneville, Greg Brown, Jimmy LaFave, Lynn Miles, Cliff Eberhardt, John Gorka, The Pines, Eliza Gilkyson, Peter Ostroushko, Bill Staines and Meg Hutchinson, the latest addition to the Red House roster. A finely woven collection of some of the staff’s favorite recent performances, it is a perfect snapshot of the label in its 25th year.
